Richard J. Monroe, Cathedral Director of Sacred Music & Choirmaster has served the Diocese of Worcester for over thirty years as a cantor, liturgical soloist, and choir director. He served as the Director of Music at Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester for fifteen years before assuming his role as director at Saint Paul's. He has been the Choral Director at Saint John's High School for twenty five years. At the high school he also serves as the Chairperson of the Fine Arts Department and as a Religious Studies teacher. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Assumption College and a Masters Degree in Education and Theology from Boston College. His musical and vocal training occured at Assumption College, The University of Massachusetts: Amherst, and with private vocal teachers in Massachusetts and New York. As a concert and operatic soloist he has performed frequently with the Salisbury Singers, Worcester Chorus, and the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra as well as with Greater Worcester Opera. When not directing choirs or singing he also serves as a stage and musical director for Assumption College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Greater Worcester Opera.
